ADVERTISEMENT Why Vehicle Donation Is the Best Way to Fund Your Organization ARE YOU SURPRISED to fnd that a vehicle is often the largest single donation a person will make in their lifetime? When we are asked to quan -tify the impact a vehicle donation program has on a charity’s fundrais -ing eforts, words typically fall short. We have the answer, but prefer to let the numbers do the talking. But frst, what is a vehicle dona -tion program and how does it beneft my organization? A vehicle donation program helps non-proft organiza -tions turn donated vehicles into a valuable funding stream. It is a sure -fre, efcient way for organizations to answer the recurring question, “How do I continue to fund my programs?” For more than three decades, Insur -ance Auto Auctions, Inc. (IAA) has been a respected leader in the vehicle auction industry and the IAA Dona -tion Division has provided a full suite of services for non-proft organiza -tions to sell donated vehicles at auc -tion. Since 1994, charities that partner with the IAA Donation Division have averaged returns of 80%. As the leading live and live-online salvage vehicle auction company, IAA provides registered buyers from around the globe with millions of opportunities to bid on and purchase donated and salvage vehicles. With more than 165 locations in North America and a strong global buyer base of licensed dealers, recyclers and exporters, IAA maximizes the sale price of every donated vehicle. IAA makes it easy for an organi -zation to adopt a vehicle donation program. IAA handles the donation process from start to fnish, turning donated cars into dollars for charities nationwide. IAA provides a full-ser -vice platform customized to meet your organization’s needs, whether that means giving you the tools to help market the program, or working with your existing marketing chan -nels to promote your vehicle fund -raising program. Services can include: • A national call center that manag -es communications with donors; • Coordination and management of vehicle transportation from the donor to the auction; • Preparation and promotion of ve -hicles for sale at auction to bring the highest returns; • All documentation required for the donor’s potential tax deduc -tion; • Comprehensive management reporting to assist you in moni -toring vehicle donation activity and projecting cash fow to your organization; • IAA also makes it easy for the donor; a donor registers with a charitable organization and lets IAA do the rest – from picking up the vehicle to delivering the pro -ceeds and appropriate paperwork after the sale. So how much will I raise? Accord -ing to the National Philanthropic Trust, the average annual household contribution to charity is $2,974. When we take the average selling price of just fve donated vehicles from the past quarter, we get a sum of $15,310. That’s more than fve times higher than the annual average. That puts the impact of vehicle donation in perspective. Recent results from proceeds that charities beneftted from include: • Leading the charge was a 1956 Ford Thunderbird that roared to a $31,000 fnal selling price; • Our buyers have an eye for Eu -ropean performance machines, as a 2008 BMW 535i attracted a winning bid of $13,750; • A 2006 Toyota RAV4 was no slouch, bringing in $12,800; • And as always, the classics were well represented with a second Ford Thunderbird, 1964 edition, that went for $10,300; • Another entry from Germany rounds out our list, as a 1991 BMW M5 brought in $8,700. In these tough economic times it is harder than ever for worthy organi -zations to raise funds. Many eforts require man-hours, months of plan -ning, seed money, etc., and at the end of the day success is not guaranteed. An IAA vehicle donation program only requires your organization to promote the program and then wait for IAA to deliver the results. It is a win-win situation. If your organiza -tion doesn’t currently have a vehicle donation program, or if you work with another partner that doesn’t deliver results like these, we’d love to talk about getting more out of your fundraising eforts. After all, the numbers don’t lie. How can I get started? Give us a call to get started at 855-801-5782 or visit us on IAA-Auctions.com/ Charity.
